Be love, be light
Everyone is posting such beautiful light photographs. I love lights, Christmas lights, the light that little sparklers make, the light in the fireplace in winter, they all create atmosphere.
But you can also look at light from a different perspective.
You can be the light in someone's shadow.
You can light up someone's heart.
Your eyes can light up when you see someone or something special.
My whole life I have always just wanted to be kind to people, I really do try at all times, maybe because we moved a lot and I knew how it feels to be the new kid and the struggles that come with that. The languages barriers I faced, the different school systems.
Maybe because we went through a time when my parents went through a very bad financial situation and I understood what it was like to not have some of the things we needed.
Through loosing family members to cancer in a very short space of time, I again was reminded that we have no idea what is happening in people's lives. We may think we do, but often people only share parts of their lives with you. Many people hold the sad parts, they keep that to themselves. Either because they want to be strong and not bother anyone with it or because they are trying to forget. Some may even think 'nobody cares anyway, so why bother'.
Whatever their reasons are... we should consider that when we meet people along the way, a smile costs you absolutely nothing but it may mean the world to them.
A kind word.
A simple hello, how are you and genuinely being interested in their response.
Little things like this may seem small to us, but for someone else you might just light up a little flicker of hope.
When I was a child, I loved smiling at adults. I would look for the most grumpy looking ones and smile at them until they smiled back.
Do you have any idea how beautiful a smile looks on us all?
So, be love, be light the world has enough darkness. Let your light shine brightly.
