11-01-2022... Hearing Impaired - Deaf
Once I've been a good hearing. I can still remember it well. Somewhere a button has been turned and in no time I was hard of hearing.
Learn to live with it. And I do.
Equally happy that the technology is improving rapidly in the hearing aids, but hearing impaired is hard of hearing.
What is hearing impaired then?
That's different for everyone. It's often all about speech understanding and understanding in noisy environments. Hearing impairment is also accompanied by tinnitus in many people (noises/beeps/noise in your head)
And yes, I've been at the front of handing out.
Incidentally, according to ENT doctor, I am officially deaf given my audiograms.
I can only speak for myself.
I hear you (within a distance of 5 meters) but don't understand. Out of 10 words, I understand four with the hearing aid. That means that my brain has to come up with the remaining six words. Then the brain is very intelligent or not then.
Music has to be on the '3 neighbors' position, they hear it too, and then I don't hear all the instruments anymore, or rather, and don't hear the vocals. Tcha, hassle.
It won't surprise you that hearing impairment is enormously exhausting.
Okay, this as a very short introduction, which can include hearing impairment.
But now the world outside my front door.
Now I haven't really fallen on my mouth, but sometimes the outside world knows how to mute me.
If you speak to a hearing impaired unexpectedly, chances are pretty high that it won't be understood. Even if you suddenly change the subject, the ears/brain are not always well calculated for that.
“What do you say?', is probably then and I hope that for the hard of hearing, than what you get in return.
Repeating once no one will mind, but three times is not going to happen. Then people are dropping off. Especially if you haven't indicated that you are hard of hearing.
But sometimes it's up to speech. Apart from the fact which pitch you can or can't hear.
Men with a beautiful heavy dark voice that I could appreciate so much earlier, I can hardly understand now. A pitch or depth actually, which is almost unreachable for me. God better it that I get dating a man in such a voice. 😁
Also a pitch that is still accessible, but there is talk inside, is also difficult. A hearing impaired person cannot read speech from the lips. And sounds are also muffled away inside. About those disadvantaged face masks but not to mention. Horror !
Back to “what do you say?'
Fortunately, it doesn't happen to me, but there are people who don't have the patience to repeat what they said. I don't come across it in my personal life, but at work.
“Let it” or “it's not important” or “do you have your devices on” (without humor), are therefore not terms that you need to engage. They are accompanied by body language. A hand gesture at “never mind” for example.
It is extremely derogatory and if you don't have hair on your teeth, it can leave deep grooves on your soul if you can't rebut. With the rebuttal, it can also hit deep.
What is not practical at the very least is already going to say something in the past. You are not calculated on it and so you don't understand. But you're already late to say 'what do you say' because the person has already walked through.
What my colleagues still have a bit of fun is sneaking up on me. Of course, they don't, but I don't hear them coming. And then they suddenly stand next to you and say what. The holes in the ceiling are innumerable by now.
The people with dementia that I work with also have a hand. Suddenly standing behind me in my experience, or next to me. Man man, man, that my heart is still beating at all is a mystery to me.
So just a summary:
Speak clearly or louder, but don't shout (distorted)
Look at the hearing impaired so that they can read speech
Take off your face mask
Approach from the side or from the front and not from behind to prevent a heart loss
Stand still and only then speak
Be patient and say it again (or 3)
But most of all, don't think hearing impaired people are stupid !!!!
And last but not least: If you see one of these signs.
indeed Hearing Impaired
In the context of #reviewed whether #reviewed I refer to the post of @Henkjan the Warrior below “See the world with us?'
It's hard to give my own written piece of 5 stars. 😋 That is not the intention. But in the context of hearing/deaf, there are various films and documentaries. And while I was looking for that, I stumbled upon the movie 'The shape of water'.
Here's what they write about it as content:
The shape of water is an American fantasy film set during the Cold War.
The deaf (there was even talk of deaf mute elsewhere) One day cleaning lady Elisa finds a fishy creature together with her colleague Zelda, with which she befriends. This creature is the last of its kind and is being studied by the US government to possibly be deployed in the army or in space travel. Elisa wants to help the amphibious creature escape from the laboratory, if it turns out that her employer wants to carry out experiments on this.
Let it just be a coincidence that this movie was on SBS9 yesterday. So you can still watch it back if you have SBS9 in your TV package.
Here my #review about this movie.
My deception came pretty fast when it comes to deaf. She heard the alarm clock. huh? Can't !! (If you know what my alarm clock looks like and gives sound 🤣)
But anyway, could be a director's mistake. Stupid, but good.
She does use sign language to her neighbor, but doesn't speak. I also found it wonderful. (I'll chat you the ears of your head)
And when she responded to someone who stood behind her and answered, I was on track and wanted to 'delete' the film.
But the story drew me, so looked off. Somewhere in the film, her colleague tells the employer that she can't speak, but can understand him. And then I knew that the description of the film wasn't right.
Now 'our' Irma has highlighted sign language very much and is even an official language by now, but it still doesn't mean you can't hear if you use sign language.
This film shows what more sign language can be used for and so I approve 😉 if it's on the Hoorstyle website.
It's an atmospheric movie. It is obviously fantasy, where the 'decors', as a rule, are beautiful. This movie is no exception. Without good and evil, the world is not complete, so is it in this movie.
The 'evil' clearly makes its rise halfway, which makes the film exciting and entertaining.
A special love story that can carry my approval !
“Without disclosing your shape, I feel you all around me.
Your presence fills my eyes with your love.
It makes my heart humble.
Because you are everywhere.'
Number of stars: 5 (out of 5)
Partly because of the wonderful acting performance and the not mundane characters in the movie, which makes the movie very fun and sometimes even funny.
About the decor but not to mention.
