An original welcome
February 1990. My first trip to Brussels. My two kind Colleagues were keen on showing me famous Grote Markt. Our hotel was fairly near Brussels-North station, but given the blizzard we chose to take a taxi at the airport. After check in, we went out to an already fading daylight. I will always remember their rapt gazes at a white-greyish curtain, with shy lights behind it: “This is Grand Place”! Equipped with gloves and beanie, I barely heard my thoughts. Back to the hotel, I started leaning to one side, due to strong winds. Snow kept falling, the rain started. A native fell on the gliding icy street. I crossed it with all cautions and arrived safe at the lobby, my dignity intact. Believe me I’d like to meet that Brussels just one more time. Human nature is so contradictory…
