On the street, the few who dare to look at it when you approach: “oh, my dear, a human!” #Corona Infected? If you have a chat, we step a little further away from each other. There's no fun. There's no smile. There is no airiness. There is depressed gloom. The feeling that Milan Kundera manages to arouse in his books now crawls me. The atmosphere of a post-war Czech Republic. Gray and grey. Neighbors watching each other. Close of kin who are willing to 'indicate' someone as long as you commit the slightest offense. Also as it was during World War II. Gestapo, NSB. When I read Kunderera's books years ago, when I see films or documentaries about wars, I always find it very hard to imagine that people can be like that. So manipulated, so sneaky, so dirty, so wrong. On the garden I shovel manure and convert a compost heap. A cold east wind. Heavy work, from which you will sweat and get a runny nose from. Just blowing my nose behind a wall, secretively, because before you know it you will be looked at reproachingly: “How dare you find yourself among us!” Fortunately, those present in the garden are strong, healthy people who like me like being outside and get a runny nose from work. On the Internet there are pictures of people who live outside and do not keep enough distance from each other. It is spoken of great disgrace. It is believed that these people should be fined with thousands of Euros. Thrown in jail. The whole country must be locked because there are people who care about their freedom. Yes, everyone knows; the point is that the hospitals and nurturing can continue to do their job. There's been applauded for these heroes. Quite rightly. Very deserved. But where were all those clapping people when one of these heroes made time to ask for more salary on the Malieveld? And all those other professions that are suddenly vital, but have been squeezed out for years. Where were the “clappers then? Maybe they were just filling up their shopping cart or strolling through the woods or on the beach. The atmosphere is not only grim, but above all scary. Shocking how quickly people are willing to drop, indicate, wish dead or sick, fined or imprisoned their fellow human beings. That's how fast and so easy. Unbelievable.
