Eau de Arachnida
The alarm goes. I wake up scared and press the snooze button quickly. With a sigh I drop myself in the pillow and turn around again.
Then I feel something itchy on my cheek. I peek through my eyelashes. A little spider looks at me from my pillow. I spring up and see that the spooked spider has taken its legs. Quickly the eight-legged runs over my mattress towards the edge of my bed. I crawl along and see the spider disappear behind my headboard. In that action, I see the spider losing something. I bend over and pick up the object. It's like glass. I need a magnifying glass to read the label:Eau de Arachnida. And underneath it in tiny letters:1 drop after breakfast for the best quality.
Hm, what would they mean by that?
It's just a small bottle. Very carefully, I turn the cap off and smell it. The delightful scent makes me float a bit. I drop a tiny drop on my tongue and then swallow it quickly. With some excitement, I wait.
After half an hour, nothing's happened.
Then I think I haven't had breakfast yet. I run down, cram in a couple of sandwiches with a cup of tea and then go back to my bedroom. Luckily, the little bottle is still on my bedside table. I turn the cap off again, hesitate for a moment and then pour the entire contents into my throat.
One minute passes, two, three.
I'm starting to polar through the room impatiently. After a while, I suddenly stand still. There's something else. I look around me and I see it: I'm standing on the ceiling. Upside down. Given my height, I don't just scrape my head across the floor.
Time to find some more space. I'll open my skylight and get up on the roof. Despite the sloping roof, I have no difficulty maintaining my balance. After the roof, I walk down the wall three floors without difficulty. A miracle! What freedom!
What else could I do? I climb the first tree I see. At the very top I weave a huge web. I'm gonna lie in it at ease and look at the blue sky. I can get used to this. I feep away for a few moments until I'm awakened by a whole series of bird sounds. My weaving skills seem to work a little too well. During my nap I caught a lot of birds: three crows, two wooddoves, six wetting magpies and a stray stork. I immediately free my winged friends and scatter my web again quickly. I don't want to accidentally catch a plane or anything.
On the way home, I find out I got a pair of extra eyes. Convenient! Now I don't need my glasses anymore.
My ears also turn out to be extra sensitive. They feel huge. Like the ears of that flying elephant. Fortunately, they still turn out to be as big as usual. Although I can hear super well now. That's how I can hear the grass growing. Handsome, huh? I even hear a mole scratching his ass deep underground because he's itching. Not very fascinating, of course.
So along the day I discover more and more about my new special gift.
I could elaborate on many pages about my exploration. Unfortunately, I do not have so many words at my disposal. So let's quickly fast-forward to the end. Not too good ending, I'm afraid. In the end, I made a small but crucial mistake.
As the new spiderman, I felt supreme. Then you do stupid things. During the ascent of a tall building, my spider forces suddenly ran out. That's what you got with little bottles. They don't last infinitely long.
