Hike Vijlenerbos and surroundings (South Limburg)

Last Sunday we walked a walking route of 14.7 km through and around the surroundings of the Vijlenerbos. The route comes from Hiking Guide Zuid-Limburg and is here to find. I thought the route was fine to walk even though I have to note that you often go up slopes so a little bit of condition seems necessary. More important than slightly firm legs is good footwear. You really need that.. The paths are often uneven, studded with stones, sloping, or damaged by tractor tires. Especially if it rains or rains then the chance of slipping is present. You have to keep an eye on where you put your feet, especially on certain pieces. So for a walking Sunday walk not suitable but do you like to walk through the forest in the sense of forest paths and occasionally a climb or slope then you will really enjoy this walking route. There are also pieces of paved roads or pebble paths so don't be frightened by the first sentences. I think it's also a nice walk to take with kids. They have plenty of place to run, jump, climb, bounce or discover. I don't think they even realize they're running almost 15 miles.

The start and end point is at this parking lot at restaurant Buitenlust, Camerig 11, Camerig/Vijlen. The parking space is not very big but you can also park the car along the road. That automatically points. In fact, cars are always parked there if the parking lot is full.

From here you have a beautiful view over the Limburg landscape. Along the way you won't find a lot of restaurants so I would advise you to bring a bottle of drinks. Especially as long as we still have to deal with covid-19. Het Zijgend Hert is a popular restaurant/café in the middle of the forest and after restaurant Buitenlust you will find that first but when we came there on Sunday there was a row of people outside waiting to enter, or go to the toilet or for whatever reason and we were glad that we just brought buns in our backpack and didn't depend on it. If you have enough time (and enough patience) then it is a nice and cozy place to sit.

On this walk you will not be able to pass a lot of sights in the sense of cultural attractions. It is really a nature walk with beautiful views:

I myself always like to see what I can find during such a walk. Especially in autumn mushrooms, berries on trees and bushes and other “phenomena” in nature are the ultimate zenmakers for me so I like to make a picture of that:

Finally found the first red with white dots mushroom!!! That's about time, say.... Later I found more during the walk but next to this I did a little dance. Without this mushroom, autumn has not really arrived yet.
