Dear vegetarians and flexitarians,

For you (and a little for myself) I tested Unox's vegetarian smoked sausage.

Often I saw the commercial pass by and it had effect. I wanted to try this one, especially because I want to eat less meat, eat less animals, rather. At Jumbo I bought this smoked sausage for €3.75. Quite pricey I think, a traditional smoked sausage costs approx. €1.40. Anyway, I know what I'm doing it for. Nevertheless, many people - and I too - have to pay attention to the little ones so the price may drop a bit, Unox! Of course it's a piece of innovation you pay for. On the other hand, vegetarian products in themselves are not new. So I keep finding it expensive.

This blog is also a disguised recipe for kale stew with smoked sausage. Well, yes... “recipe “... “stew “... The lazy version. With a bag of kale and ready-made mashed potatoes, you'll come a long way, haha. No, I'm not going to tell you how I prepared it. The sausage, that's what we're going to talk about. The color was after the fright of the price tag, the second thing I noticed. The photo shows the actual color well. Not really attractive I found, it was a bit the color of liver sausage. Inside, the color was even lighter.

In the meantime, I have the food ready. 😉

Because I'd like to show you how the structure is internal.

The smell is like every smoked sausage smells. By this I could not recognize that this is the vegetarian variant. So the structure is. Pretty dense and it doesn't really look like meat. An ordinary smoked sausage has little to do with meat. Not pork tenderloin but mashed mechanically with 'smoke-aroma'. So you don't miss much on that. This sausage is mainly based on proteins. Not vegan, but vegetarian. I find the taste very good and hardly distinguishable from real smoked sausage. What immediately stands out is that no fat seeps out. Good in itself but get used to it. Below is the picture. FYI: In the 'stew' I didn't use bacon or other meat either.
