I was raised with the music of Simon & Garfunkel. Especially the song Cecilia, Sound of Silence and Bridge about trouble water I find great songs.

The story:
During their high school period, Simon and Garfunkel started singing songs by, among others, The Everly Brothers. In 1956 they accepted the stage names Tom and Jerry (Paul Simon as Jerry Landis and Art Garfunkel as Tom Graph), officially started a career and received a first recording contract. In 1957, they first wrote their own lyrics and scored a first hit number 49 on the Billboard list: “Hey schoolgirl”. Subsequent attempts at hits proved unsuccessful and after high school everyone went their own way.

In the following period they saw each other little. In 1962 they met again and at the end of 1963 they performed under the name Simon & Garfunkel.

In January 1966 a remix from the studio of their The Sounds of Silence suddenly reached the highest position on the American charts. The song was very successful throughout the world. Their music was used as a soundtrack for the film The Graduate (starring Dustin Hoffman) in 1967. With their quiet, well-hearted and mildly socially critical songs they rose in the charts. Songs such as “The Sound of Silence”, “Homeward Bound”, “I am a rock”, “Kathy's song”, “April come she will”, “A hazy shade of winter”, “America”, “Scarborough fair”, “Mrs. Robinson”, “The Boxer”, “Bridge over troubled water”, “Cecilia”, “El condor pasa” and “My little town” are still known to many people. They also have a song dedicated to the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Some of their songs have reached the status of evergreen. Simon & Garfunkel won five Grammy Awards for their albums. The duo split up in 1970.

After 11 years, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel met for once on 19 September 1981 for a performance in Central Park in New York. Almost half a million people were present at this memorable performance. In 2003, the duo received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

In 2004 they held the Old Friends Tour and in February 2009 Garfunkel announced that they might start another tour. [3] In June and July 2009 there was a tour through Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

Wauw ik heb deze LP! Ik ben ook naar zowel Simon als Garfunkel geweest, alleen jammer dat ze nooit meer samen optreden... :(

Het grappige is, we luisterden het thuis ook vaak en Simon en Garfunkel stonden met The Boxer en Sound of Silence ook op een verzamelbandje, voor in de auto naar Zwitserland en naar fietscross. Een klein jaar terug kwam ik er pas achter dat Paul Simon de... Show more
