Growing bonsai began in China and moved to Japan around 1300 AD, where it really became specialized. Bonsai means 'plant in pot' and is the traditional Japanese art form aimed at growing miniature trees in pots. In simple lines, it exhibits the essential characteristics of a full-grown natural specimen.

Forming of bonsai:

Forming bonsaiis taught in schools in Japan, and the rules for it are very strict. The masters in Japan believe that a bonsai has nothing to do with a tree in nature. Here, in the west, they are grown on trees in nature, in miniature.

Beautiful Bonsai trees. I'm trying it with a thin tree with pink flowers. I've had it for three years now and it's going well. Needs water often. What I give it a little bit of it every 2 days. But I like a really thick tree trunk better. Then it is a real little tree.
@Toto Animo You only get a thick trunk if you grow the tree in open ground for several years.
