Valentine in intensive care
A routine check, that's all it was.
Annual check-up of a sportsman who had reached middle age anyway.
About 15 hours of sport a week. Healthy food. No excessive drinking and no smoker.
And yet... the bike test caused some turmoil at the cardiologist.
Still, something abnormal can be seen on the cardiogram.
Just to be sure, check the veins for constrictions.
And yes, there they were: three constrictions.
Not even little ones. Clear to see.
90% even.
A stent is not a permanent solution. Certainly not at that age. Because that heart needs to last for a while.
The verdict: a bridge. Luckily, only one that can make a detour around the three silting pieces on the coronary arteries.
But it's a bit of a scare. It's a major operation anyway.
A cardiac surgeon is recruited who wants to try it through a viewing operation.
That makes it less radical.
Then the sternum should not open.
Just a few small incisions.
Which medical science can't.
