Part 3: The park, the immediate vicinity and Weert (center)

In this part I describe the above, supported by photos of course. Incidentally, Weert center was more difficult to reach by the Triathlon , a large (s) event with many participants from various countries. Also in Weert we have 'picked terraces' and seen a lot by bike.

From our cottage you walk right into the Weerterheide. A beautiful nature reserve that reminds you more of dunes than a heather plain. In this vast area you can walk or cycle along the tarmac trails, although the latter is not recommended now. The tree roots have damaged the asphalt in many places, so that the bike is sure to watch out. Fortunately, that is being worked on.

The Weerterheide with an unguarded railway crossing. Without overhead line but on the rails, the track is still used.

We hardly met people here so 'Klein' could just loose in this vast area. Of course you need to have your dog under control at all times.

The area is connected to a military training ground.

Not unimportant to know, although it is unclear whether or not it is still used as such. Wikipedia speaks here in the past tense but the warning signs are still there...
